One of the primary goals of the School of the Renaissance Soldier is to bring together military reenactors in sufficient numbers to allow for a more realistic experience. It is very difficult to demonstrate how a Renaissance-era army operated if you have only six pikemen, four musketeers and three campfollowers. Large numbers of participates are required to realistically reenact, and more importunately, to fully understand and appreciate the mechanics of, the early modern army.
Individually, few military reenactment groups can muster the numbers needed to be successful at a large scale encampment featuring drill and tacticals. At an SRS event, however, members from many different companies join together under one command to do just that. The result is very satisfying! Here, pike, shot and horse all work together to attain the ultimate military reenactment experience.
The following groups have contributed greatly to the success of this endeavor though their active participation and support:
The English Company of Foote is a military reenactment group patterned after a 16th Century English infantry company. Our portrayal is based upon solid, ongoing research and an active awareness of the social, political, religious and technological forces that shaped the era. We adhere to definitions of rank, position and responsibility modeled after our historical counterpart. All equipment and material goods we use are based upon contemporary examples or documents as supported by our research activities. Company members endeavor to research and reenact all aspects of military camp life for officers, soldiers and camp followers. We share our passion for research and training by performing in living history fairs, parades and other events designed to entertain and educate the public. Just as significantly, we engage in non-public living history reenactment for our own enjoyment and satisfaction at workshops, training drills, competitions and period feasts and encampments.
Armstrong's Company of Horse aim to recreate a family of sixteenth century Anglo Scottish Borderers based out of Bewcastle (that's on the English side of the border). We strive for a high level of accuracy in both material and behavior. We also pride ourselves on friendly interaction and cross pollination with other like minded reeanctors.

Members participate in Renaissance Faires, parades, historical reenactments, Schützenfests, and the study of historical fighting techniques. The primary function of our group is to foster an interest in Landsknecht armies during the period from 1485 to 1603 and to achieve an accurate portrayal of the lifestyles and material cultures thereof, paying particular attention to the study of weapons, armor, clothing, food, camp gear and other accoutrements. We attempt to recreate a soldier's daily existence with the greatest possible accuracy in order to better comprehend and appreciate the afore-said period in history.
